Prayer Letter 27

Jay Ayers

Dear Friends –

I walked around the small lake in our neighborhood this morning, adding a small detour to make the total distance a mile and three quarters. That’s the farthest I’ve walked since my heart surgery, which took place just over a year ago, on June 2. I’ve had some ups and downs since the last time I updated everyone, and my walking pace is still pretty slow. But the weather is pleasant, the sun is shining, and I’m feeling happy about the progress.

I’ve received helpful feedback from many of you on The Trinity for Teens, motivating me to do a lot of rewriting of the early chapters. It’s hard to get this right, but people’s comments have helped me see how to make this more workable. Thanks! I’m getting steady work on it, four days a week during dialysis treatments, plus usually one more day per week.

Dialysis has had some ups and downs, too. We’ve had notable trouble setting the needles the last several weeks. Last Wednesday I had an angiogram to see if they could see why that was happening. They discovered an 85% stenosis in my dialysis vein, so the vein was only 15% open. They proceeded with a balloon angioplasty to fix that: insert a balloon, inflate it to swell the vein back to its proper shape, deflate the balloon and remove it. All done in less than an hour.

But the procedure to open the vein also moved it, so Micaela still couldn’t get the needles set on Thursday. On Friday we went into the clinic, and our nurse Hillary used sharp needles to create new dialysis channels. We used sharps at home on Saturday and today, Monday, at home. We’ll use them Wednesday as well, and then switch back to blunt needles after that, which should be fine to follow the re-established channels.

I continue to post a Bible reading day by day, on a schedule to read the entire Bible over the course of the year. We’re in Nehemiah right now. We’ll start Esther on June 14, and Job on June 18. You’re welcome to come along: james-ayers.com

Here’s Paul’s trinitarian reflection on the sending of the Son and the Spirit:
God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts (Galatians 4:4-6).

Thank you, again and always, for your prayers for Micaela and me.

Many many blessings to you all –
