Prayer Letter 24

Jay Ayers

Dear Friends –

I came home from the hospital two days ago, Tuesday July 1, after a total of five weeks. It’s good to be home. I’ve still got a long ways to go to regain my strength and stamia: but last night I cooked supper for Micaela, and this evening I walked to our neighborhood lake and back, using my walker, about half a mile total. Micaela and I are learning to do home dialysis: the training course usually takes about six weeks. It’s a lot of stuff. But we feel confident, buoyed up by the love and prayers and support of so many dear loved ones.

Earlier this evening I posted two entries from the book of the prophet Hosea in the chronological daily Bible reading collection at james-ayers.com. That brings the project up to date; if you were wondering whether Hosea was going to be filled in, it now is. Meanwhile, tomorrow’s reading from Isaiah will post shortly after midnight. If you haven’t been reading along with us, I invite you to take a look:

Hosea’s Home Life presents a visual parable of God’s love for unfaithful Israel

The Holy One in Your Midst shows God’s emotions more vividly than almost any other Bible passage

Thanks again, and always, for all your prayers. I have felt the sureness of God’s presence in all of this, sometimes in spite of my weakness, sometimes because of my weakness. Quoting from tomorrow morning’s Bible reading: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” (Isaiah 43:2). (Maybe you recognize these lines from the inner verses of Robert Keene’s great hymn, How Firm a Foundation.)

Many many blessings to you all –
