Deep in the dark, life was desolate and stark
For shepherds in meadows reclining,
Their hearts bleak with fear as they waited for the year
When the light of the world would come shining.
Long had they heard of the coming of the Word:
The promise the prophets had spoken.
A word ever sure that would evermore endure
And would heal all the hearts that were broken.
Angels sang out with a glad and holy shout:
“Come lift up your hearts to adore him!
Now hasten, obey, he is born for you today.
Set your gifts and your treasures before him.”
Lord, we arise, your light gleaming in our eyes,
To join in this glad celebration!
You love us so well, now we join our hearts to tell
All the world of your great incarnation.
